The weather warning will be in place from 3pm to 8pm today
All schools that are in areas due to be impacted by today’s amber weather warning are to close early for the safety of children and staff.
The Education Authority has issued a statement this morning saying that schools will close at 12pm/midday on Friday, October 3, due to the weather warning.
It has come into place due to Storm Amy, with the western half of Northern Ireland, which covers Co Antrim, Co Derry, Co Tyrone and Co Fermanagh receiving an amber warning for wind and rain. The eastern half of NI has a yellow weather warning in place and this will be in place from 3pm to 8pm.

An Education Authority spokesperson said: “All schools located in the areas affected by the amber weather warning in Northern Ireland are required to close at 12 midday today, Friday 03 October 2025. This decision has been taken in the interests of the safety of children, young people and staff.
“The amber warning covers the western half of Northern Ireland – counties Antrim, Derry/Londonderry, Tyrone and Fermanagh. The Education Authority consulted with the Met Office to ensure there had been no overnight amendments to the alert.
“The alert applies to the period 3pm to 8pm today and is warning of a spell of damaging winds on Friday late afternoon and evening. It has cited the potential for power cuts and damage to buildings, including a risk of injuries from flying debris.”
