Legendary Irish trainer Jim Bolger is putting his 84-acre stud farm in Wexford up for sale. Redmondstown Stud, which has produced seven Classic winners including Dawn Approach, Teofilo and Mac Swiney, is on the market with a guide price of €975,000 as Bolger plans to downsize his operation.

The stud farm, located just outside Oylegate village, will go under the hammer in an online auction later this month.

Despite selling the farm, Bolger intends to continue training and breeding horses, but aims to streamline his operation in the future.

Speaking about his decision to sell, the 83 year old told the Racing Post: “It was about time I did. I bought a farm in Rathvilly 12 or 13 years ago, and it was always my intention that everything would be consolidated there, but it’s taken me a while to get around to it,” reports the Irish Mirror.

“Eventually we decided that we’d reduce the number of mares and keep them there. I’m cutting back on the training as well. I’m just letting it happen and it’s going nicely.

“We’ve always sold a few, and I will until I get the numbers down. Then I’ll just train what’s coming along. We still have to deal with this year’s foals.”

He added: “The story of Redmondstown is the horses. I’ve trained about 55 Group 1 winners and most of them would’ve come out of Redmondstown. That’s a record that’ll be hard to beat for a farm of that size.”

The Bolgers purchased the stud farm in 1990, which is described on the auctioneer’s website as a “purpose built and very impressive equestrian establishment.

“It comprises c. 84 acres of land in top class condition with a good multi purpose soil type (wonderful grassland) suitable for any type of farming and a bungalow residence in need of refurbishment.

“Set in a west facing position with a private driveway and stunning views over the River Slaney, it offers top class facilities with 24 stables, walker (8), lunging arena, outbuildings, tack room, 4 span hay shed/machinery, canteen with WC and service road through the farm.”
