The Datsuns bring their garage-rock grit back to Australia in March – Backseat Mafia

by wellnessfitpro

Two decades on from their self-titled debut rattling the New Zealand charts, The Datsuns are still running hot. Next March, the band will bring their garage-rock snarl back across the Tasman for an Australian run that promises both grit and history in equal measure.

The Hamilton quartet first cracked international ears in 2002 with a record that landed them alongside Metallica, The White Stripes, and Queens of the Stone Age. In the years since, they’ve worked with Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, released seven albums, and carved out a reputation for playing shows with teeth.

This tour marks another loop in that long arc. Scandinavian drummer Adam Lindmark holds down the engine room, locking tight with bassist Dolf de Borst. Out front, Christian Livingstone and Phil Somervell deliver the jagged riffs and raw churn that remain central to the band’s live punch.

Fans can expect a sweep across the catalogue: from the riffs that made their name in the early 2000s to the first sparks of album number eight, due in 2026. New single “Ugly Leather” sets the tone – sharp-edged, relentless, and proof that the band’s fire hasn’t dimmed.

For Australian audiences, March will be a reminder of why The Datsuns remain one of the region’s most enduring rock exports – no gloss, no pretence, just four musicians digging straight into the core of garage rock.
