The PSNI and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service have issued statements amid an ongoing incident where a “number of people became unwell” in the Holyland area.
Emergency services were called to Damascus Street in South Belfast on Tuesday, September 30, at around 5.30pm. Residents in the area have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed, with specialist hazardous material units at the scene.
The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said one person has been taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital, while police are advising the public to avoid the area.

A police cordon is currently in place across a number of streets between Damascus Street and the Stranmillis Embankment.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the PSNI said: “Police alongside colleagues from other emergency services are at the Damascus Street area of south Belfast after a number of people became unwell this evening, Tuesday 30th September.
“A number of people have been transported to hospital for treatment. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area at this time. A further update will be provided in due course.”
A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said: “The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 17:35 on Tuesday 30 September following reports of an incident in the Damascus Street area.
“NIAS despatched one Emergency Crew to the incident. Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken to RVH.”
