Glenavon chairman Dr Best has urged the fans to get behind the team this Saturday as they bid to put en end to their losing run
The experienced duo of Niall Quinn and David McDaid will form part of an interim management team at Glenavon alongside coaches Tim Lennon and Ryan Prentice.
Club chairman Dr Stephen Best confirmed the news in the wake of former boss Paddy McLaughlin’s departure on Sunday following a nine-game losing streak at the start of the season.
With the Lurgan Blues rooted to the foot of the Irish Premiership Dr Best said the club will “carefully choose the best candidate who applies” as they look to turn their campaign around.
“For the record the Glenavon Board of Directors met after the game on Saturday against Crusaders,” read the statement from the chairman on the Glenavon website.
“The season started with such promise. The atmosphere at the preseason friendly game with the German team FC Erzgebirge was ‘electric’.
“Unfortunately, due to poor performances the Board decided it was now time for a change of management team. We thank Paddy and his staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.
“Senior players Niall Quinn and David McDaid, along with coaches Tim Lennon and Ryan Prentice, form the interim management team.
“The decision about who will be the new manager is important, and the Board will carefully choose the best candidate who applies.
Gleanvon head to mid-Ulster rivals Portadown on Saturday looking for the first points of the season with Best urging the fans to get behind the team.
“Glenavon needs the support of the fans more than ever. The players need to hear that support on match day,” he added.
“It is a massive game against Portadown at Shamrock Park this weekend. No better place to kick off a run of good results.”
