“Super comfortable – a bit of stretch around the stomach is always a good thing! A great fit, lovely colours, really nice and stylish but also just really great to wear. You can dress them up or down as you like.”

Marks and Spencer customers have been flocking to purchase a “perfect for autumn” pair of trousers that have been hailed as a “welcome change to jeans” for the chillier days approaching. The Cord Wide Leg Trousers have climbed the bestseller list this month as an adaptable wardrobe essential that can be smartened up or dressed down.

At £40, the trousers are available in three seasonal shades including ‘bitter chocolate’ brown, olive green and ‘spice’ beige, though the sought-after spice tone was out of stock when we checked.

Offered in sizes six to 24 with extra short, short and long lengths alongside regular, they feature a high-waisted design and wide-leg cut, with added stretch for enhanced comfort.

Meanwhile on the high street, for those who like the corduroy aesthetic for autumn but want a more laid-back or casual style, Next is stocking the Wide Leg Soft Cord Trousers in four shades including black and bold. Crafted from a soft jogger material with a corduroy finish and completed with an elasticated drawstring waist, these trousers also boast a more wallet-friendly price of £29.99.

Returning to M&S, the Cord Wide Leg Trousers have achieved an average score of 4.4 out of five stars across nearly 100 customer reviews. Buyers have commended their “gorgeous” colour selection alongside their “flattering” silhouette, noting they will “get lots of wear” during the autumn and winter months, ” reports Chronicle Live.

One individual commented: “I bought these trousers for every day wear as an alternative to jeans. I really love the colour, they’re super soft, comfy and on trend. I’ve had lots of compliments about them and would definitely recommend them.”

Another reviewer added: “Super comfortable – a bit of stretch around the stomach is always a good thing! A great fit, lovely colours, really nice and stylish but also just really great to wear. You can dress them up or down as you like.”

A third shopper praised: “Lovely brown cords. The wide leg is really flattering – definitely 70s vibes. Not too baggy though and nice and fitted at the waist. Gorgeous chocolate brown colour and very soft. They also don’t loosen too much when wearing.”

And another person said: “So stylish and such a good fit that it makes it hard to take them off. The tailoring is outstanding and the material is of the highest quality.”

However, some M&S customers complained about the sizing of the trousers, saying that they ran small. One person fed back: “These were too short and too tight. They were several inches smaller and shorter than other M&S jeans of the same size.”

Another customer noted: “I am a standard size 12 and these are snug on the waist. If I went up a size to make the waist more roomy, they would then be too big on the thighs and look baggy.”

Similar styles can be found at New Look, where the Cotton Corduroy Wide Leg Trousers are available in brown and beige for £39.99. For those seeking bolder colours, the Women’s Twister Cord Trousers at White Stuff for £59 offer options in plum purple, tan orange, dark green and navy blue.
