Just Deano, who travels the world for his YouTube channel, travelled to Belfast before going to Dublin where he stumbled upon the ‘best full Irish breakfast’ in the capital
A British bloke who globe-trots for his YouTube channel discovered “Dublin’s best full Irish breakfast” – but instantly spotted a “major issue” with the offering.
During his opening day in the Irish capital, Just Deano savoured a pint at O’Shea’s Merchants, and was drawn to a notice by the entrance claiming they served an unrivalled traditional fry-up.
On his departure day, Deano put it to the test before catching his flight back home. He requested the full Irish which arrived with handcrafted Kerry sausages, thick-cut bacon, baked mushroom, Annascaul black and white pudding, salted tomato, fried eggs, toast and a tea.
Upon examining the menu, he remarked: “What stands out to me the most is there’s no beans on it and I did get a comment (during his Belfast visit) saying beans aren’t on Irish breakfasts but you can add beans for €3 or chips for €5.”
Choosing not to shell out an additional €3 (approx £2.62) for beans, particularly given his full Irish breakfast at Wetherspoons the previous day cost €4.95, he commented: “€13.50 (approx £11.77). No beans? Wow.”
Once his meal turned up, Deano noted it “looked strange” without beans and described the fare as appearing “basic”.
Nevertheless, after sampling a sausage, he raved: “Oh my days, let me tell you, I made a video recently saying looks can be deceiving. I think it was an MandS cafe in Leeds for breakfast as well and it actually looked alright but it tasted bland and crap.
“This looks basic but the flavour of the sausages is absolutely insane. Oh my days. Honestly, that has proper surprised me that, it is such a rich sausage. Wow.”
However, the compliments didn’t stop there, with the food continuing to impress, and after sampling the bacon, he remarked: “Oh my God. That is absolutely delicious. The bacon is nicely thick. See, another one where it looked a little bit dry but it is so tasty. Oh my god that char on the edges just makes it.
“It elevates it. Wow wow wow. Unbelievable. I am beginning to believe the sign.”
He also branded the eggs as “epic” while savouring the tomato and mushroom.
However, it was the black and white pudding that truly amazed him, and after sampling the black pudding, he exclaimed: “Oh wow. Wow. Oh my God. That is absolutely fantastic. Wow wow wow. I’ve said wow about 100 times.”
Regarding the white pudding, he continued: “That is absolutely fantastic. So good. So so good. Wow. Everything is perfect. I will be honest when it first came out I thought there’s no beans. It looked basic but it couldn’t be further from the truth.”
O’Shea’s Merchants only offers breakfasts on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays but Deano declared it was absolutely worth it, describing his meal as “spectacular”.
Reflecting on his experience further, he explained: “It weirded me out there were no beans. I’m a Yorkshire man and we have beans on our breakfasts. And I’m definitely not paying €3 for a portion of beans.”
He revealed that he had sampled as many as five breakfasts in Dublin during his visits and that O’Shea’s was without question the finest.
Sharing advice with his 31,800 followers, he concluded: “The famous black pudding and white pudding. Oh my god, the white pudding, come to Ireland, come to Dublin, come anywhere in Ireland and have an Irish breakfast. Unbelievable.
“Did I miss the beans? No. Wow, what an end to a trip, fantastic few days I’ve had here in Dublin.”
