A number of emergency services will participate in a major training exercise at Belfast’s SSE Arena tonight.

The event is expected to involve several emergency agencies and will see increased activity around the arena throughout the evening.

Authorities have stressed the exercise is routine and aimed at testing responses to major incidents, with no disruption to services anticipated.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police and other emergency services are today (Tuesday,16th September) conducting a multi-agency training exercise in the Harbour Estate in Belfast. The exercise is designed to test the preparedness, response and collaborative working between a number of agencies in the event of a major incident.

“Agencies including the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Belfast Harbour Police, NI Fire and Rescue Service, NI Ambulance Service and HM Coastguard are taking part in the exercise that has been a number of months in the planning.“The Queen’s Quay from the front of the SSE Arena will be closed from the roundabout from 8pm to 11pm. The car park will remain open and can be accessed from either side of the closure.”

Posting on Facebook, the Ambulance Service said: “NIAS will be taking part in a planned multi-agency exercise at the SSE Arena in Belfast tonight, the 16th September 2025.

“There will be a number of emergency service vehicles in the area, and we would like to reassure the public that this is a planned exercise and will not affect our normal service.”
