Barry Furfey: First picture of Lisburn murder victim released as PSNI issue statement

Two people – a 37-year-old man and 38-year-old woman – arrested on Monday remain in custody

Police have released the first image of the 42-year-old man murdered in Lisburn in the early hours of Monday morning.

The victim has now been officially confirmed as Barry Furfey. Detectives from the PSNI launched a murder investigation following the death of Mr Furfey in Lisburn on Monday.

Mr Furfey, who was 42 years old, was found seriously injured at an address in the Wardsborough Road area of the city in the early hours of Monday, September 15.

Emergency services were called to the apartment complex where Mr Furfey lived in the early hours of the morning. He died in hospital on Monday after sustaining serious injuries.

A couple – a 38-year-old woman and 37-year-old man – have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody

Police say they received a call for assistance from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service just before 1am on Monday morning, 15th September, at a property in the Wardsborough Road area of the city.

Officers attended, and the victim was located at the property with serious injuries. Medical treatment was provided at the scene – before he was transferred onward to hospital. Sadly, he then passed away on Monday morning due to the extent of his injuries.

In a statement on Tuesday, PSNI Detective Inspector Jill Angus said: “My thoughts are with Barry’s family, who are left to try to come to terms with their devastating loss.” She continued: “Two people – a 37-year-old man and 38-year-old woman – arrested yesterday, 15 September, remain in custody at this time. “Our enquiries are continuing, and I am keen to take the opportunity to reiterate my appeal to anyone with information to contact detectives on 101. Please quote reference number 29 of 15/09/25.”

Many tributes have been paid to Mr Furfey since news of his death emerged.. Local politicians say the community has been left shocked after police launched a murder inquiry following the death of Mr Furfey.
