Northern Ireland lost 3-1 to Germany in their Group A game in Cologne
Northern Ireland fell to a 3-1 defeat to Germany in their second Group A World Cup qualifier on Sunday evening.
After beating Luxembourg on Thursday night Michael O’Neill’s men had hoped to inflict more pain on the hosts, who lost their opener to Slovakia.
It was the hosts who struck first as Serge Gnabry fired them in front on seven minutes, but Isaac Price’s 10th international goal deservedly levelled matters before half-time.
The visitors looked to be keeping the German’s at arm’s length until substitute Nadiem Amiri put them back in front again on 69 minutes before Florian Wirtz’s sublime free-kick three minutes later sealed the win.
