A major new recall has been issued for 10 products sold in Irish supermarkets due to Listeria fears, with shoppers urged not to eat the affected batches.
A major new food recall has been issued for 10 items sold in supermarkets across Ireland, with the public being urged not to eat the affected products.
It comes after Listeria monocytogenes were detected in a range of popular spinach and mixed leaves products. Listeria is a type of bacteria that can cause serious illness, particularly in vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, babies, older adults and people with weakened immune systems.
In most cases, infections produce mild flu-like symptoms or gastrointestinal issues like nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. However, in rare instances, it can lead to more severe complications. The time between exposure and first symptoms averages three weeks, but can stretch anywhere from three to 70 days.
The recall, issued by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) on Saturday night, affects a wide selection of products from McCormack Family Farms, which supplies items to major retailers including Dunnes Stores, Lidl, Tesco and Aldi.

Shoppers are advised to check their homes for affected batches and avoid consuming any recalled items. Supermarkets are required to remove the products from sale immediately and display recall notices at the point of sale.
At this stage, there is no evidence linking this recall to the ongoing listeriosis outbreak associated with ready-to-heat meals currently under investigation.
This is the latest recall from McCormack Family Farms, following earlier recalls of spinach and mixed leaves batches issued in late July and early August.
The FSAI said: “The below branded Spinach and Mixed Leaves products are being recalled by McCormack Family Farms due to the detection of Listeria monocytogenes. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale in stores.
“Symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications. Some people are more vulnerable to Listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly. The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average 3 weeks but can range between 3 and 70 days.
“Retailers are requested to remove the implicated products from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale. Wholesalers/distributors are requested to contact their affected customers and recall the implicated products and provide a point-of-sale recall notice to their retailer customers. Caterers should not use the implicated products. Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated products.”
