Singer-songwriter Indira Ellis has released her third single of the year, Spellbound. The new release sees Ellis continue to develop her distinct sound, blending singer-songwriter tendencies with indie and electronic-pop.
Spellbound is described by Ellis as a reflection on a short-lived romance. “I wrote this single about the experience of being spellbound by a stereotypical ‘bad boy’,” she said. “It felt like a fall breeze in that it was chilly, and didn’t last long enough.”
Sonically, the track incorporates lofi electronics, strummed acoustics and Ellis’ emotive, effortlessly controlled lead vocal, carrying both a sense of intimacy and intensity thanks to the infectious melodies.
Originally trained as a classical vocalist with a background in musical theatre, Ellis later turned to pop, rock and alternative music. Since moving to New York City, she has written and released songs exploring themes of self-discovery and belonging. Her debut came in 2022, and she has since steadily built a catalogue of singles, each marking a new step in her development as an artist.
With Spellbound, Ellis continues to expand her profile on the independent music scene, drawing attention for her combination of personal storytelling and genre-blending style.
