Butter yellow is officially having a moment. The soft, creamy pastel has been everywhere this year — from runways and home decor to TikTok’s endless shopping hauls — and Kendall Jenner is the latest celebrity to put her spin on the shade. On Instagram, Jenner’s go-to nail artist Zola Ganzorigt (known as Nails by Zola) shared a fresh manicure for the model featuring OPI’s Blinded by the Ring Light ($12), a pale butter yellow that feels dainty and chic. Ganzorigt filed Jenner’s nails into a short, rounded-square shape, perfectly in line with TikTok’s ongoing debate about nail length, which we, of course, chimed in on Instagram. Gen Z has been calling long acrylics “millennial coded” and favoring short, square styles as the cooler, more modern choice. Jenner has switched between both looks in the past, but this mani makes a clear case for the Gen Z side.

Jenner isn’t the only one reaching for the shade. Earlier this summer, Kourtney Kardashian traded her usual white French tips for a creamy pastel yellow, and Selena Gomez showed off butter nails of her own in May. The color has been just as present on the fashion side, with Bottega Veneta and JW Anderson debuting it on the Spring 2024 runways, and Alaïa and Toteme carrying it through into their 2025 collections. What started as a playful pastel has officially leveled up to neutral status, popping up everywhere from dresses and sneakers to nail polish and even home decor.

“I love butter yellow right now, I’m wearing it myself! I went on a family vacation last week and three of us girls all had yellow nails, totally unplanned,” nail artist Kimmie Kyees tells Popsugar. “I think it’s bright and cheery without being obnoxious. It’s a perfect neutral-ish shade for summertime.”

The mani itself came as Jenner was promoting her latest 818 Tequila launch: miniature bottles that taps into Gen Z’s “little treat culture.” But it was her butter yellow nails that stole the show — and if Kendall’s mani is any indication, the butter yellow trend is sticking around for the long haul.
