EastEnders actor issues update on wife’s health as he details future on TV

Colin Salmon has played George Knight in EastEnders since 2023 and has been involved in some hard-hitting storylines on the BBC soap.

Actor Colin Salmon has portrayed the tough-talking, charismatic rogue George Knight in EastEnders since 2023.

Making his entrance to Albert Square alongside his girlfriend and two daughters, BBC audiences have witnessed his character embroiled in some hard-hitting storylines.

Beyond the long-running soap opera, which recently witnessed one cherished actor join the Strictly Come Dancing line-up, Colin has appeared in numerous well-known films and TV programmes.

From featuring in three James Bond movies, assuming the role of General Dru-Zod in Krypton, to portraying Noah Taylor in Silent Witness, the BBC star doesn’t hesitate to embrace the spotlight.

Nevertheless, he’s also dabbled in directing, as he participated in a campaign for Good Morning Britain back in 2021, reports Plymouth Live.

During Friday’s episode of the ITV programme, Colin chatted to presenters Charlotte Hawkins and Robert Rinder about his role in Nobody 2 before discussing directing and his wife’s health.

Addressing his one million minutes campaign on loneliness, Rob remarked: “It was inspired by your aunty Myrtle and lots of people, millions responded to it.

“I wondered whether or not, in addition to the acting, given the impact you’d had there behind the camera, you thought perhaps some more directing for you?”

Colin responded: “Well, I think at the time I mentioned my wife was unwell, which has been resolved. My wife is well, she had the surgery and I bought a house in America on the 1st of July, we’re in a completely different place.

“Being in Walford, part of the plan for me was, I always see the BBC as the university of broadcasting, so there I can learn and there I may get the opportunity to start to go down that road with really great crews to make sure I get it right.”

Colin has been married to artist Fiona Hawthorne for more than three decades and the couple share four children together.

Tragically, Fiona battles a rare condition called interstitial lung disease, which has left her reliant on an oxygen tank.

Previously, the BBC star has discussed his wife’s illness and revealed it as one of the factors behind his decision to join EastEnders.

Speaking to OK! previously, he explained: “My wife’s not well, so I can’t be far from home, and so the universe has brought something quite extraordinary, and my agent said, I think you should talk to Chris.

“Chris was passionate, he was clear, he was progressive, had a vision, and a clear and clear love for the show. And the people who watch it.

“So I find that to be the requisite for any job. I just like to work with people who are passionate because we give 100% When we jump, we jump That’s the rule. So to have somebody like guiding us. It’s really important.”
