An ex Emmerdale star has been left devastated after TV show was axed after just one series, with the broadcaster not offering to recommission.
Former Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas, who portrayed Adam Barton in the beloved soap, has been left stunned following the axing of his latest ITV venture after merely one series.
His Game show 99 To Beat featured him alongside his Coronation Street actor sibling, Ryan Thomas as co-presenter. The programme represented the first occasion the brothers had fronted a show together and debuted with considerable excitement on the broadcaster in March. Nevertheless, following rumours regarding its destiny, the actor has now revealed that viewers will not witness a second series of the show – a devastating blow for the family.
During the most recent instalment of At Home With the Thomas Bros, the podcast he creates with Ryan and his twin brother, Scott, he revealed: “When I am positive about something, it gets cancelled.”

With sadness in his voice, Adam added: “Honestly, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Like I did (I’m a Celebrity spin-off), Extra Camp presenting. I did one series of that, and it got cancelled.
“The next presenting job I did was with Ryan, 99 To Beat, and that’s got cancelled,” reports the Express.
The structure of 99 To Beat featured 100 participants competing against each other in a sequence of tasks.
The sole regulation was avoid finishing last. The quantity of competitors was reduced each round until one individual triumphed and claimed the ultimate reward.
ITV have also confirmed they will not be recommissioning Adam and Ryan’s show and that it would be taken off air. In a statement to The Sun, they said: “99 To Beat is the biggest entertainment launch this year across all channels and streaming platforms.
“It reached 12.5 million viewers and was streamed over 4 million times on ITVX. The Thomas Brothers are fantastic presenters, but unfortunately, at this stage, we will not be recommissioning.”
Adam finished third on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here in 2016. He departed Emmerdale in 2019, having portrayed Adam since 2008.
Following his exit, he has made a comeback to BBC’s Waterloo Road as Donte Charles. The programme was relaunched in 2023 after eight years away from screens.
The announcement of 99 To Beat’s cancellation marks the latest reduction at the broadcaster. Earnings allegedly fell by 44 per cent to £99 million during the first half of the year, sparking a fresh drive to control production expenses.
They have also introduced reductions throughout the daytime programming. Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning, and Loose Women have all reportedly been impacted, with hundreds of employees made redundant in recent months.
99 to Beat is currently still available to stream on ITVX.
