TV insiders have claimed Cat Deeley’s return to the UK following her split from Patrick Kielty has been difficult, with the mum-of-two reportedly considering a move back to the US
Sources have voiced their concerns that RTE’s The Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty could be facing tough times ahead if Cat Deeley decides to move back to the US with their children following their separation.
The pair, who tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in Rome in September 2012, have recently announced the end of their 13-year marriage, leaving friends and locals in Patrick’s native Dundrum, County Down, expressing their worries for the 54-year-old comedian.
With two children shared between them, there’s a palpable fear among those close to Patrick about the potential impact of Cat relocating stateside.
An insider claimed: “Everyone is worried about Paddy. The fear is that Cat will go back to America with the little ones. That will leave him in a very dark place.”
Cat Deeley took over presenting duties on ITV’s This Morning last year with Ben Shephard, stepping in after Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby’s departure. But since confirming her split from Patrick, it has been suggested that 48-year-old Cat has struggled with her return to the UK.
Speculation is mounting that Cat, who first became a household name hosting SMTV Live, might leave her role on This Morning and consider a move back to the US.
TV sources speaking to Mail Online claimed: “Cat’s time on This Morning has not been a failure, but it has hardly been a roaring success.
“It is a job which puts her under so much scrutiny, day-in and day-out, and unlike most British presenters she has plenty more lucrative options to choose from in the States… There is concern that all of this family drama could lead her to walk away.”
After over 14 years in Los Angeles, where Cat fronted the hit series So You Think You Can Dance, she and her husband Patrick made their way back to the UK.
Cat quickly took up presenting duties on This Morning, amidst reports of ITV daytime shows facing budget reductions.
The network has unveiled plans for a revamp, which will see Lorraine’s airtime cut by half an hour and the show taken off air during school holidays starting January.
Rumours are rife that This Morning might relocate from its White City studio in West London to a more cost-effective site in central London.
Cat, hailing from West Bromwich in the West Midlands, hasn’t shied away from discussing the challenges of early morning starts for the four days a week she hosts This Morning, confessing it had led to her and Patrick sleeping separately most nights.
