Girlfriend Leads Darcie Haven’s New EP Release – Backseat Mafia

by wellnessfitpro

From a farm in Esperance, Western Australia to Melbourne’s music scene, singer-songwriter Darcie Haven has just released her new EP Angel of the Apocalypse. Known for sharp, honest writing and a sound that leans into grungy indie-pop, Haven’s latest work looks at the intensity and fallout of short but consuming relationships.

The focus track, ‘Girlfriend’, captures the core of the EP. It’s a song about the confusion between casual connection and real emotional weight, written with the mix of toughness and vulnerability that runs through her work. Haven describes herself as an “antihero of heartbreak”, and her songs often feel like pages from a diary, unfiltered and direct.

Growing up in the isolation of rural Western Australia shaped much of her storytelling. She’s been compared to Gracie Abrams, Holly Humberstone and Phoebe Bridgers. Over the past year, she has built a loyal following, with millions of views and likes across YouTube and TikTok.

That following has recently started to spill over into live shows. Her first national headline tour sold out most of its tickets within a day, while a pop-up event in Sydney had to move to a larger space after more than 460 people over the limit showed up.

Her recent singles ‘Doomsday’, ‘Burner Account’ and ‘Hounds’ have received strong support on triple j and streaming services. ‘Girlfriend’, the new single, continues that momentum with early plays on triple j Drive, Home & Hosed and Hot Hits.

On stage, Haven has opened for Holy Holy, Vance Joy, DMAs, Alex Lahey, Great Gable and Birds of Tokyo, and has appeared at SummerSalt and WA Day festivals. She also featured on Holy Holy’s latest album Cellophane on the song ‘Heroes’.
