Coronation Street’s Bruno Langley lives a completely different life almost a decade on from his shocking soap departure.

The performer rose to prominence playing Todd Grimshaw on the ITV drama – first appearing in 2001. Todd arrived in Weatherfield alongside the rest of the Grimshaw family, including mother Eileen (Sue Cleaver) and sibling Jason (Ryan Thomas).

Throughout the years, Todd featured in numerous major plotlines, portraying the programme’s first openly gay character on the famous street.

In recent episodes, Todd has begun a relationship with new arrival Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) though he has been displaying a concerning sinister streak lately.

At present, Todd is portrayed by Gareth Pierce who assumed the part in 2020 following Bruno’s dismissal in 2017 after he sexually assaulted two women at a Manchester establishment, reports the Daily Star.

He admitted guilt to both charges and was given a 12-month community order plus a curfew, with Bruno also required to pay damages to his two victims.

He revealed to The Sunday Mirror: “I have no excuse, no one forced me to drink to such an extreme, but it is hard to explain why I would do anything as dreadful as that.

“It must have been awful for those women, and I am ashamed of myself. I’m truly sorry. I sincerely apologise to the women, from the bottom of my heart. I promise I will never do anything like that again.”

Following his conviction, Bruno was removed from Coronation Street with the programme erasing all evidence of the actor from the series. In 2019, he announced a significant shift in his career, informing his Twitter followers that he had transitioned to photography.

He penned: “I just wanted to reach out and say that yes I am a photographer now, I’m really happy being creative in this way, and I make people really happy with what I do.”

Discussing his decision to step away from the limelight, Bruno further added: “I have been taking some time out these last two years or so to catch my breath, reassess what is important to me, and to make myself a better person.

“I understand some people will want to say negative things and that is fine, I can take it.

“I have been shown so much support and love by so many people, be it friends, family, or strangers I meet, and I want to thank you from my heart for being so amazing and compassionate towards me.”

Then in 2021, Bruno disclosed that he had ventured into music creation. He shared his debut track Downpour – which features his sister on the cello – on Spotify.

“Good evening friends, brothers and sisters. My latest track ‘Downpour’ is available to stream right now. For anyone that practices yoga or meditation or for people that just want to chill-out and de-stress, this might be your kind of thing.”

He added: “My beautiful and endlessly talented sister Amy provided the Cello for me -thank you so much sister, I love you. I am really happy to share this track with you, I had a great time making it. All my best – Bru x”.

In recent times, Bruno has continued to keep a low profile, with his last public update being the release of his song Downpour.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
