Celebrity couple Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty have decided to part ways after a 12-year marriage. Cat, 48, and Patrick, 54, released a joint statement saying: “We have taken the decision to end our marriage and are now separated. There is no other party involved.”

“We will continue to be united as loving parents to our children and would therefore kindly ask for our family privacy to be respected.”

Last year, in a lighter moment during an interview, Cat gave a rare insight into her home life with Patrick. Speaking to The Telegraph about her elaborate skincare routine, she quipped: “I go to bed like a greasy potato chip, you’ve never seen anything like it. It’s all over the pillows. Poor Paddy!”

Recent reports suggest that Cat and Patrick had been living separately for much of the past year. An insider told the Daily Mail that their demanding careers had created distance between them.

“It is such sad news,” said the source. “They were so happy after they moved back to London, and would talk about their grand plans to renovate the house for the family.”

“However, work commitments took their toll and placed a significant strain on their relationship.”

Patrick has been juggling his time between Dublin, where he hosts The Late Late Show, and London, presenting his Radio 5 Live show every week. He has also faced personal challenges, with the loss of both his mother and aunt in the previous year.

Observers pointed out that Cat was conspicuously absent from the mourners when Patrick shouldered his mother Mary’s coffin in his home village back in March.

A representative explained at the time: “Cat remained at home to be there for her two young children before and after school on this very sad day.”

Since February 2024, Cat has been focused on her role on ITV’s This Morning, resulting in her and Patrick’s schedules causing them to pass like “like ships in the night.”

On the programme, Cat disclosed that she and Patrick often slept apart due to their work routines. She shared: “It’s one of those things – because of our schedule here [on This Morning], from Monday to Thursday I sleep in the guest bedroom and the rest of the time I’m back. Because otherwise I get up at 5am and I want to fall asleep earlier.”

Before taking on the This Morning gig, which followed extensive talks at the end of 2023, Cat had been presenting So You Think You Can Dance on American television, adding further strain to their relationship due to the distance.

Although their careers initially brought them together – meeting in 2002 on BBC’s Fame Academy – it ultimately played a part in driving them apart.

Prior to the announcement of their split, Patrick had maintained that their clashing timetables weren’t an issue, but conceded that they “probably could have timed it better in terms of the juggle.”

Referring to his Irish TV chat show as his “dream job,” he expressed amazement at the fact that both of them are involved in two major shows, calling it ‘kind of mad’. He shared with RSVP Magazine: “I’ve had my house in Dundrum [County Down] for 25 years now and I’ve always been back and forth. The kids are in school in London and Cat works in London, she’s there four days a week.”

He further clarified that he and his wife have no intentions of relocating to Ireland permanently, stating: “I can just about come to Dublin to do what I do, but she’s in ITV four days a week.”
