Shannon Meenan-Browse passed away 18 months after the operation in August 2023
The coroner has said the inquest into the death of Derry woman Shannon Meenan-Browse is “ready to proceed”.
A preliminary hearing into the 32-year-old Derry woman’s death heard that all the requested expert reports will be with the court within the next two weeks and that the full hearing will be ready to proceed in January.
Shannon Meenan-Browse passed away in August 2023, 18 months after she flew to Turkey for gastric sleeve surgery, with her family saying she “starved to death” in the wake of her passing.

Her husband Don and father Shane said she became so ill she “starved”, with vomiting so severe that her teeth rotted and her hair fell out before she sadly passed away.
At a preliminary hearing ahead of the full inquest next year, the court heard that all of the expert reports that had been requested are due to be with the coroner within the next two weeks.
Speaking to Belfast Live in September 2023, Shannon’s husband Don said his wife’s death had been “soul destroying” for the family.
On the risks associated with traveling abroad for weight loss surgery, Don said: “I want everybody to be aware, to do your research, and to be aware that all the bad reviews are taken off.”
