Family’s heartbreaking tribute to ‘pure gentleman’ who died in fatal road crash

Heartfelt tributes have been pouring in for a ‘pure gentleman’ from Co Kilkenny who tragically lost his life in a road traffic accident last weekend.

Eamonn ‘Ned’ Murphy, who was in his 40s, sadly passed away after being hit by a car in Waterford city in the early hours of Sunday morning, November 23.

Gardaí reported that they were alerted to an incident involving a pedestrian and a car on the R448 in Sallypark at around 2.10am.

Despite the efforts of Gardaí and emergency services, Mr Murphy, who was in his 40s, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, escaped unscathed.

In a heartfelt tribute shared on RIP.ie, Mr Murphy’s family described him as a ‘loving daddy’ and ‘pure gentleman’, reports the Irish Mirror.

“Ned passed away on Sunday following a tragic road accident. Predeceased by his parents Martin and Peggy Murphy,” read Mr Murphy’s death notice.

“Beloved husband of Vitalija and loving daddy to Tommy. Ned will be dearly missed by his heartbroken family, brother James, sister Ann Marie, sisters-in-law Trish and Audra, brother-in-law Tommy, nieces Ella, Ciara and Katie, nephews Senan, Oisin and Martin, mother-in-law Virginija and father-in-law Petras, relatives, neighbours and friends.

“Ned was a pure gentleman and always found time to have a quick word and a bit of craic with his wide circle of friends. We love you Ned and will miss you forever.”

Friends and neighbours have paid heartfelt tributes to Mr Murphy. One mourner shared a message online, saying: “Dear Vitalija, Tommy, James and Ann and all the extended family, sincerest sympathy on the very sad and sudden passing of Ned. He was so kind hearted, generous and made time for everyone. I will cherish the childhood memories with Ned and you all in Ballynooney. He is united now with Martin and Peggy. Thinking of you all during this really difficult time.”

Another person expressed their condolences, stating: “Our deepest condolences to Vitalija, Tommy and the extended Murphy family, on the sudden loss of Ned. We are simply heartbroken by his passing. Ned leaves behind a legacy of kindness and craic. We will always cherish the memories we shared with Ned and you all, the laughs, the chats and his kind words. He will be so deeply missed by us all here in Ballinaraha. May his gentle rest in peace.”

A close friend also shared their sorrow, saying: “Our sincere condolences to Vitalija, Tommy, James, Ann Marie, Trish, Tommy and all the extended Murphy family on the very sad passing of Ned. Ned was a lovely, kind gentleman who always had a word for everyone. Thinking of you all at this heartbreaking time. May Ned rest in peace.”

Mr Murphy’s funeral took place at St. Beacon’s Church in Mullinavat (via his residence) on Wednesday, where the young father was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.
