The Pittsburgh Steelers are in Dublin to face the Minnesota Vikings in the first ever NFL regular-season game to take place in Ireland, but the trip has been marred by an incident involving a Steelers quarterback

Pittsburgh Steelers’ backup quarterback, Skylar Thompson, was reportedly ‘jumped and robbed’ in Dublin on Friday night.

Despite being on injured reserve, Thompson travelled with the team but fell victim to a robbery on Friday night, sustaining minor injuries, reports the Irish Mirror.

NFL insider Tom Pelissero was the first to report the incident, stating: “The Steelers’ trip to Dublin wasn’t without some drama: Sources say backup QB Skylar Thompson got jumped and robbed Friday night in Dublin.

“Thompson, who is on injured reserve, suffered minor injuries but is OK and with the team.”

The Steelers face off against the Minnesota Vikings at Croke Park on Sunday, with an anticipated crowd of around 76,000 expected to fill GAA HQ for the game. This marks the first NFL regular-season game to be held in Ireland.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been residing at Carton House in Kildare and training on site, while their opponents have been staying at the luxurious Shelbourne Hotel and using Sport Ireland’s Abbotstown as their base.
