Belfast Christmas Market has been named one of the best in the UK to visit for the 2025 festive season by The Times.

The focal point of celebrations in Belfast, it will run from November 15 to December 22, and marks its 21st year in the city centre.

Remarked by The Times for its “glittering glow” in the grounds of Belfast City Hall and its wide range of tastes, both local and international, it made the top 10 this year.

While opinions on the market can differ from person to person – with some finding it overcrowded and expensive and others counting down the days until it opens – we can appreciate its importance in the city’s festivities.

Here are some reasons why we think that The Times has recommended the Belfast Christmas Market as one of the best in the UK:

The food offering

From international favourites to local bites, you will never go hungry at the Belfast Christmas Market. For many, Christmas doesn’t start until they have their first plate of Dutch Pancakes or a Kangaroo Burger. And yes, sometimes things may be on the dearer side but there is something for all tastes and budgets.

The setting

It is hard not to feel Christmassy under the glittering lights of Belfast City Hall. There is something so special about the massive Christmas tree and festive lights that make a visit that bit more special. Its central location also makes it handy to find and much more accessible for those using public transport for a trip. Even if you don’t spend a penny, it is lovely for a walk around to see the decorations.

We are treated to not one, but two fantastic bar options at the Belfast market for those wanting to make a night out of their visit. Whether you fancy a mulled wine or are stopping on your 12 Pubs of Christmas route, it has you covered. If you fancy a big stein of strawberry beer then the German Beer Tent is the one. Or if something more traditional suits your fancy, local legends Lavery’s have a cosy bar tent to visit.

Lots to do for the kids

The Times said the Belfast market was the best in the UK for a Helter Skelter and that is only the tip of the fun things for the kids to get up to when they visit. Between amusement rides, a snow globe photo opportunity and of course Santa’s Grotto, the little ones will love a visit to the Belfast Christmas Market.

Perfect for Christmas shopping

If you are looking to buy your loved one something special, the market can be a perfect place to pick up a nice gift. Lots of fantastic NI businesses set up shop at the market each Christmas and making it the perfect way to support local during the festive season.

A great thing about the Belfast Christmas Market is that it starts in mid-November, giving plenty of time to get down before it closes. This year, the market runs from November 15 to December 22 – giving 38 days for guests to stop into the market for shopping, entertainment or leisure.
