Beechmount Residents Collective are campaigning to make the roads in their area safer
A West Belfast community group has launched a campaign to tackle dangerous driving in their area as they ask motorists to “slow down”.
Beechmount Residents Collective have recently put signs up throughout the area and have been engaging with local residents following a number of complaints of dangerous driving and speeding.
The campaign is hoping to address not only car drivers, but those using scramblers, e-bikes and e-scooters, who have been putting local residents at risk. BRC has said that residents have raised concerns that it is “only a matter of time” before someone is seriously injured or worse unless drivers slow down.

Sean Doherty from Beechmount Residents Collective told Belfast Live: “The BRC (Comhphobal Ard na bhfeá) has been on the ground over the past number of weeks, actively engaging with both residents and young people as part of its ongoing campaign to address road safety concerns in the community.
“Volunteers have been working door to door, with our letters opening conversations and raising awareness about the dangers posed by speeding cars, motorbikes, e-bikes, and electric scooters. This community-led approach has already delivered positive results, helping to strengthen relationships and foster greater understanding between residents and younger generations.
“A visible part of the campaign has been the introduction of new bilingual safety signs, carrying the messages “Go Mall” and “Slow Down”. These signs serve a dual purpose: reminding drivers to reduce their speed and making the Irish language more present and celebrated within the area.
“The initiative has been warmly welcomed, with residents highlighting the importance of both safer streets and the promotion of the Irish language as part of everyday life. The BRC has pledged to continue its work on the ground, promoting respect, safety, and pride in the community.”
