A pensioner was left with severe injuries following a horrifying attack in Co Tipperary last night, prompting Gardai to call for witnesses.

The man, in his 80s, is currently in a critical condition in hospital after the incident, which occurred on St. Michael’s Avenue in Tipperary Town on Friday evening, September 12.

The assault happened around 9.35pm.

The victim was quickly taken to University Hospital Limerick, where his condition has been described as “critical” by the investigating Gardai.

The location of the attack was cordoned off for some time to allow for a technical examination, reports the Irish Mirror.

Gardai are now urging any witnesses who were in the area last night, especially anyone who may have footage of the scene at the time of the incident, to get in touch with the authorities.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told The Irish Mirror: “Anyone who was in the area of St Michael’s Avenue between 7pm and 10pm, and has video camera footage (including dash-cam), is asked to make it available to Gardaí.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Tipperary Town Garda Station on 062 80670, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
