When it comes to air travel, there are certain unspoken rules that passengers are expected to adhere to in order to make the journey smoother for everyone. However, flight attendant Barbara ‘Barbie Bac’ Bacilieri, 29, has revealed that not all travellers abide by these guidelines, making her job more difficult and causing unnecessary problems at 30,000 feet.

The YouTube creator has urged passengers to refrain from making so-called witty comments. She shared an instance where a passenger jokingly gave her permission to “eat them” if the plane crashed, referencing the true story of Society of the Snow.

This story, which was later adapted into a film, tells the tale of an Uruguayan rugby team who, after crashing in a remote part of the Andes, were forced to resort to cannibalism to survive.

On a more practical note, she advised passengers to keep their stilettos packed away in their suitcase.

According to her, they’re only going to cause discomfort when walking around the airport and could potentially cause issues in the event of an emergency on the aircraft.

She stated: “I never wear heels… in an evacuation, you would have to take them off so you don’t damage the slide.”

She also noted that passengers often seem eager to board the plane as quickly as possible – but she emphasised that if you’re sat in the lounge waiting, there’s no need to stand and queue for your seat.

Barbara said: “Why queue to board if you’re going to have to stand around waiting for so long?

“I prefer to wait until the end for everyone to get on and then I go quietly.”

Discussing how to maintain hygiene during a flight, she advises against entering the lavatories when unidentifiable spillages are present on the floor.

She also highlighted that despite in-flight blankets being laundered between flights, they have been used by countless passengers.

Generally, she encourages travellers to keep to themselves, seek assistance from a flight attendant if any issues arise, dress suitably for their journey, and maintain a positive attitude whilst travelling.

This advice follows a revelation from another flight attendant who shared the ‘code words’ cabin crew utilise to discuss passengers right under their noses.

Cabin crew member Jennie, known as @jeenie. weenie on social media, unveiled the true meanings behind the secret language used by airline staff – including what terms like ‘bob’ and ‘flip flop’ signify.

In her video, she explained: “When you hear flight attendants say Tom Cruise, we use this as a trick to remember where tea and coffee goes. Tom Cruise – T and C. Tea here and coffee here.”
