Man due in court after 5G mast torched in west Belfast

A 44-year-old man is due in court on Tuesday charged with arson.

It follows a fire to a 5G mast in West Belfast on Sunday, September 7.

The emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a 5G mast on Whiterock Road, at the junction with Brittons Parade at around 11.30pm on Sunday.

It is one of a number of 5G masts set on fire in recent weeks.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 9, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Detectives investigating a fire to a 5G mast in west Belfast on Sunday, 7th September have charged a 44-year-old man with arson.

“The man is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 9th September. As is normal procedure all charges are reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”
