Cardiff Solo artist Ani Glass returns with the new single ‘Acwariwm’.
A luminous, all Cymraeg alt-pop track that shimmers with atmosphere, blending glistening 80s-inspired electronics with a driving live bass line. The result is a sound as evocative of Cocteau Twins as it is of Bat For Lashes and Goldfrapp. Built on lo-fi beats and bright synths, the vocal melodies radiate warmth and light, weaving gracefully through the arrangement. The interplay between the electronic textures and live bass adds a raw, propulsive edge, infusing energy into the track’s naturally melancholic, otherworldly tone. As the floating chorus unfolds, this duality crystallizes, pulling the song forward with both purpose and emotional resonance.
Describing the song, Ani explains that the track is about “reconnecting with the world around you and reminding yourself to keep looking for hope in every corner, even when things seem dark.”
The single is lifted from her forthcoming album Phantasmagoria, which will be released on September 26 to coincide with the European Day of Languages. In early 2020, on the eve of releasing her previous album Mirores, Ani was diagnosed with a rare benign brain tumour. The diagnosis marked a profound turning point and sparked the introspection and layered storytelling that define the storytelling across the upcoming album Phantasmagoria. The album also reflects Ani’s commitment to celebrating identity and language, with lyrics in Cymraeg (Welsh), Kernewek (Cornish) and English, as well as bringing British Sign Language into her live performances.
As the new single showcases, the upcoming album promises to be a kaleidoscopic journey through lush, introspective and multi-layered tracks, tinged with a pop sensibility.
