A planning application for a change of use to a fast food outlet have been submitted to the council
Popular US fast food chain Popeyes could be set to open in Belfast City Centre according to a planning application submitted to Belfast City Council.
The chain, which already operates two stores in NI at Lesley Forestside and The Junction in Antrim, looks set to open in the unit currently occupied by GAME in Donegall Arcade.
Last week, Belfast Live revealed that GAME is set to move into the former TK Maxx store within Donegall Arcade as part of a new 30,000 sqft Sports Direct megastore.
When Belfast Live approached Popeyes for comment, a spokesperson said that they could not comment on the proposals at this time.
However, drawings submitted as part of the planning application appear to match the fast-food restaurant’s branding and colour scheme.
Founded in New Orleans in 1972, Popeyes has more than 50 years of history and culinary tradition that has seen it become one of the world’s largest chicken quick-service restaurants, now with more than 4,000 restaurants globally.
Having launched in the UK in November 2021, Popeyes now has over 80 sites in the UK with plans to open more than 45 new restaurants in 2025. The chain employs approximately 3,000 people in the UK and expects to create another 2,500 new roles this year.
