Rory McIlroy made his sporting event choice ahead of the start of the Irish Open
Rory McIlroy has played in some of the biggest sporting events in the world from helping Europe win the Ryder Cup to completing the career grand slam.
The Northern Irishman has also attended some of the most iconic sporting events including the recent US Open tennis at Flushing Meadow.
But which sporting occasion that McIlroy hasn’t yet been to would be on his bucket list? That was the question pitched to the world number 2 and several other golfers ahead of the start of the Irish Open on Thursday.
After some deliberation the keen football fan stated: “Bucket list sporting event that I’ve never been to…probably the World Cup final. Yeah I’d love to be able to get to the World Cup final one day.”
Fellow Irish golfer Padraig Harrington agreed saying: “I suppose I’m in the position that I can get to a lot of things…the Olympics, I’ve been to the Super Bowl, been to Wimbledon, been to the Ryder Cup
“I would pick, and I haven’t been to it, is the World Cup football final. To see Ireland there really would be the dream.
“If Ireland got to the final there wouldn’t be a ticket available even for me, it would be the hottest ticket in the world ever.”
Shane Lowry showed his love for Gaelic Games as he said: “Bucket list…I’ve already been there, but the best one is the All-Ireland finals hurling or football. If I had to pick one I’d not been to, probably the Lions series.”
Europe Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald plumped for the 100 metres at the Olympic Games, while Brooks Koepka picked the Super Bowl, but only if the Packers are in the final!
