The sale marks a significant turnaround for the hotel since being bought out of administration in 2012
A landmark Ballycastle hotel has gone on the market for nearly £5 million.
The Marine Hotel in the centre of the town is being marketed by Savills as a “superb opportunity to acquire a prime seafront hotel along the Causeway Coast and Glens”.
It has 51 rooms, including six self-contained rooms based in the separate annex building at the rear of the building. The hotel has a bar and restaurant and is situated in a 1.4-acre site with a 70-acre car park.
The hotel was bought out of administration in 2012 by owners Colum McLornan and Claire Hunter who invested heavily in the business, adding new rooms and opening a café on the ground floor.
The pair have also secured planning permission to create an additional 14 hotel rooms and for the conversion of the disused Country Club at the rear of the building into 10 self-catering holiday units.
The agents are marketing the property for £4.95 million and said the Marine Hotel’s car park also presents an opportunity for further asset management, subject to further planning permission. A conceptual plan has been drawn up to develop 20 standalone holiday apartments, alongside a secret garden, terrace, and an infinity swimming pool.
“The Marine Hotel represents an extraordinary opportunity to acquire a well-established and highly profitable seafront hotel along one of Northern Ireland’s most scenic routes,” Neal Morrison, Director at Savills Belfast, said. “Its combination of a prime location, modern facilities, and potential for further development makes it a standout offering in today’s market. Ballycastle is a fantastic destination, and the hotel’s position at the heart of this vibrant community adds even more to its appeal.”
Tom Barrett, Director of Hotels & Leisure at Savills, agreed.
“This is a rare chance to purchase a 4-star asset that is not only trading successfully but also offers significant potential for future expansion,” he said. “The Marine Hotel has already established itself as a leader in the local hospitality market, and with the planned developments, it has the potential to elevate even further.
“For investors, this property offers a combination of immediate returns and long-term growth opportunities in one of Northern Ireland’s most iconic coastal locations.”
