Hundreds of tributes have been posted online with one stating: “What a gentleman, who always had a smile and a chat for everyone.”
A Co Fermanagh community have been plunged into mourning following the second tragic death in the area in the space of a week. Days after the death of former Roslea GAA player and father of three Ciaran Cassidy, the border village is mourning the loss of another young man, Johnny Murray.
Murray, 38, a resident of Derryree Wood on the outskirts of Lisnaskea, took ill on Sunday morning near the popular Cuilcagh Mountain Boardwalk and passed away. He leaves behind his wife Clare and two young children, Dara and Una.
Earlier this year, Murray and a group of his friends raised over £6,800 for MacMillan Cancer Support after taking part in a huge charity cycle. Murray and his friends took on a 106km lap of Lough Ness in Scotland in memory of ‘very close family members unfortunately no longer with us due to cancer’.
Murray also played for the St Colmcilles GAA club in Cardiff during a spell abroad and he was named their men’s player of the year back in 2016.
A death notice on Funeral Times read: “May Johnny’s gentle soul rest in eternal peace. Sadly missed by his beloved wife Clare and his cherished children Dara and Una, his father Michael, sister Michelle (Martin McClave), brother Martin (Anthony Murray).
“A dear uncle to all his nieces and nephews. A treasured son-in-law of Jim and Marie Martin and a much loved brother-in-law of Kieran Martin (Orla) and Laura (Daniel Mohan). Predeceased by his mother Angela. Sadly missed and remembered with love by his wife, son, daughter, father, sister, brother, mother and father-in-law, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, neighbours and large circle of family and friends.”
