Darragh Ennis has revealed what it’s really like working alongside his quiz show colleague, Bradley Walsh. During a recent appearance on the Dempsey’s Dozen podcast, Darragh (known as The Menace) branded the beloved ITV host as the “ultimate professional” and said he’d “love to dish some dirt” on him.

Bradley, who’s been presenting The Chase since its debut episode in 2009, is a “really good guy”, according to the Irish entomologist, who commended the father-of-two’s talent to “read things at speed”.

When questioned if Bradley is as “nice [of] a guy as he comes across,” Darragh was swift to offer his verdict.

What will certainly delight the host’s fans is that the quizzer’s remarks about him were entirely glowing.

Darragh revealed: “[He’s] much, much, nicer in real life. I’d love to dish some dirt, you know, behind the scenes. Brad is an ultimate professional. Like, his ability to read things at speed, and scan answers and everything, is epic.”

He added: “Yeah, he’s great, he’s really great, very easy to work with, but he is so nice and so funny, and he leads sort of [an] atmosphere and a culture in the production company where there’s no bad behaviour. And he very much leads that, he’s a really good guy.”

Darragh joined the show as the sixth Chaser in 2020, alongside Mark Labbett (also known as The Beast), Shaun Wallace (The Dark Destroyer), Anne Hegerty (The Governess), Paul Sinha (The Sinnerman), and Jenny Ryan (The Vixen). He was the first to transition from contestant to Chaser, after impressing producers.

In a previous chat with the ECHO, he expressed that he didn’t suffer from “stage fright”. Darragh shared: “I did well on the quiz, but a lot of people do. I don’t get stage fright. I don’t get rattled by cameras or anything and a lot of people do. That can subtract a bit from how well their personality comes across.

“So, because I had that advantage, maybe they just saw something and thought ‘this fella is very relaxed on camera’, which is a big part of the job. It’s not just about knowing stuff. It’s about being calm enough in the moment to recall everything quickly, so I think just a combination of those things.”

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Bradley was left “white as a sheet” during a trip to Japan with his son, Barney, for their show, Bradley and Barney Walsh: Breaking Dad.

While appearing on Chris Evans’ Virgin Radio Breakfast Show, they discussed crossing a rope bridge, as seen on the series. Chris commented: “You genuinely have the vertigo, because you could tell.”

Bradley responded: “I know, people think I’m making it up,” with Chris supporting him, saying: “There’s no way, you were white as a sheet.” Barney chimed in: “It does terrify him.”

Acrophobia, commonly mislabelled as vertigo, is the fear of heights and can trigger physical reactions such as sweating, nausea or light-headedness, according to Healthline.
