Since spotting the unexpected flaw in his £4 lunch deal pizza, the unhappy customer from County Down, Northern Ireland, says he hasn’t returned to Domino’s
A tradesman has been floored by what he received as part of Domino’s £4 lunch deal. Mark Gourley, a kitchen sprayer from Northern Ireland, said he spotted something odd about a seven-inch barbecue chicken and bacon pizza he ordered on his lunch break.
Having relished the chain’s £4 deal for several consecutive days earlier this month, the 30-year-old had grown accustomed to the size and flavour of the food on offer.
After placing a pizza order on the fourth day however, Mark said he realised it looked smaller than usual, so decided to look into it.
Grabbing a tape measure, he found that the pizza came in at just five and a half inches across – smaller than the seven inches that is promoted.
A summary of the deal on the Domino’s website reads: “These personal 7″ pizzas perfectly hit the spot for one. They’re made up of our famous fresh dough base, topped with Domino’s tomato sauce, and our best-selling toppings for that unmistakable Domino’s taste.”
The website also promotes: “Personal pizzas, Hot and Cheesy Wraps, delicious chicken… at just £4 each. For those days when last night’s leftovers just won’t cut it, enter our new £4 lunch offer.
Sharing his frustration, Mark said: “I went up and collected the pizza on my lunch break. I went back to work and realised it looked smaller than seven inches, so I thought I would measure it to see.
“It was six and a half inches one way and the other way was five and a half inches. There was over an inch missing [from one side].
“I was quite annoyed. I’m paying for seven inches so I expect to get the size I pay for.”
The ex-Subway worker revealed he attempted to ring his local Domino’s branch to raise his complaint, but was unable to reach any staff members.
Having failed to get through over the phone, he turned to social media platform X, previously called Twitter, to grab the company’s attention.
Using his account, he shared images of the pizza he had received next to his measuring tape, and posted: “What is this @Dominos_UK? [A] seven-inch pizza shouldn’t be any less than seven inches.”
Mark said Domino’s official account replied and told him to get in touch with his local branch. He continued: “I tried that and they hadn’t answered. It was disappointing.”
The pizza enthusiast revealed he hasn’t been back to the chain since his discovery, though wouldn’t dismiss ordering from them once more with caution.
“I would order from them again in the future but I would be more wary about it,” he continued.
Domino’s has been contacted for comment.
