EastEnders star Gillian Wright has opened up about what fans can expect from upcoming episodes of the BBC soap, as Zoe Slater is set to make a dramatic return to Walford
Zoe Slater is set to make a dramatic return to Walford, causing quite a stir for the Slater family in EastEnders, according to actress Gillian Wright.
The soap star, who portrays the beloved Jean Slater in EastEnders, has given fans a sneak peek into what they can anticipate from forthcoming episodes, stating that Zoe’s reappearance will significantly affect the entire Slater family.
Earlier this year, it was announced that actress Michelle Ryan would be reprising her role as Zoe for the first time in 20 years.
She made a brief appearance on-screen earlier this year in scenes shot away from Albert Square, but now Zoe is making her way to Walford and will reunite with her mother Kat (Jessie Wallace) in upcoming episodes of the BBC soap.

In an exclusive chat with Digital Spy, Gillian hinted: “How will Zoe’s return shake the Slater family up? In a big way. In lots of different ways, it’s not just one aspect of Zoe’s story that shakes us up.
“There’s lots of different aspects to it, and there’s a rollerball of effects and consequences. It’s big and it’s exciting, and it’s just great to have her back!”
Zoe’s comeback coincides with an exciting period for the Slaters, as September marks the 25th anniversary of the family’s debut in the BBC soap, reports the Daily Star.
Recently, the family took over the Queen Vic with Kat and husband Alfie (Shane Ritchie) back behind the bar, and the couple have been at the heart of the drama due to their son Tommy’s (Sonny Kendall) latest antics with newcomer Joel (Max Murray).
Meanwhile, Jean has been going through heartbreak following her break up with Harvey (Ross Boatman), who betrayed her by having an affair with Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth).
Gillian revealed Jean is “destroyed” and “confused” by her separation from Harvey, confessing the split has left her “floored” as she had placed so much faith in him.
Simultaneously, Jean has also come to terms with the fact she’s not suited to bar work after several major blunders behind the counter, though Gillian explained this is precisely why she “loves” her character, as she’d rather stick to her cleaning duties than be serving drinks.
EastEnders viewers can anticipate seeing Jean and the Slater clan return to the heart of the storyline in upcoming episodes, with confirmation that Zoe will formally make her entrance to Walford and confront mum Kat for the first time in years.
EastEnders airs Monday – Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm.
