BBC EastEnders actor Max Bowden has revealed details of his return to the BBC One soap as he reunited with a former co-star on daytime television.

The Ben Mitchell actor made an appearance on the This Morning sofa on Monday, 25 August, where he shared some details with Rylan Clark and Josie Gibson, who were hosting the Bank Holiday edition of the ITV daytime programme.

Max was joined by former Coronation Street actress Katie McGlynn, who portrayed Daniel Barlow’s late wife Sinead.

Both Max and Katie have previously starred in the BBC drama Waterloo Road and are now collaborating for the touring stage production Murder At Midnight.

However, the presenting pair were eager to learn about Max’s upcoming EastEnders episodes, which will see him make a dramatic return to Walford from a US prison amidst his husband Callum’s shocking affair, reports the Daily Star.

Rylan queried: “Max, I hear Ben is making a bit of a comeback…” The actor responded: “He is. Yes. He’s coming back as a doting husband, he’s managed to get a transfer from the US and he comes back for a brief stint, which was lovely to film.”

Josie interjected: “Because he’s in prison for fraud isn’t he?” Max confirmed: “He is, he’s been a naughty boy.”

Josie added: “So what is it, day release then?” Max continued: “He gets sectioned out of the US and he’s on day release for Callum’s dad’s funeral.”

The 30-year-old, who portrayed Ben in EastEnders from 2019 for five years, expressed that he was “ready” to bid farewell to Walford when he left the role. Max made his last appearance as Ben in early 2024, with his character being apprehended for an international crime.

Speaking to The Lewis Nicholls Show after his departure, he revealed: “I did nearly 600 episodes in five years, which is a hell of a lot, and it was time for a rest. The character was tired, I was tired, they [the producers] were probably tired of me being tired.”

His exit scenes depicted his character being arrested for fraud following an international warrant issued for his arrest, leading to his imprisonment in America and leaving behind his friends, family and husband Callum in Walford.

Since then, Callum, portrayed by Tony Clay, has been engaging in an uncharacteristic affair.

In the meantime, Max and Sinead will be gracing the stage this autumn in Murder At Midnight, a touring stage production set to open in September and visit theatres across the UK.

The twisted crime caper takes place on New Year’s Eve in a tranquil corner of Kent, where a murderer lurks within the house.
