Former Armagh and Crossmaglen star Aaron Kernan worked with clubmate Tony McEntee with Sligo this year
Meath boss Robbie Brennan has moved to bolster his coaching staff.
Reports suggest that former Armagh star and multiple Crossmaglen All-Ireland winner Aaron Kernan is set to be added to the Royals’ coaching ticket.
Kernan – son of Armagh All-Ireland winning manager, Joe – is a highly respected pundit for GAAGO and Smaller Fish, who is renowned for his in-depth knowledge of the game.
He worked alongside his Crossmaglen club mate Tony McEntee with Sligo this year, but when McEntee ended his tenure there, Kernan was free to be snapped up.
There is a gap in the Meath coaching ticket with Martin Corey – brother of former Monaghan manager and player Vinny – and Tyrone All-Ireland winner Joe McMahon leaving the management mid-season.
Corey and McMahon have since moved on to Kilcoo in Down, with the full details of why they left never emerging.
In their absence Meath regrouped impressively with Conor Gillespie and Shane Supple doing much of the coaching as they defeated Dublin, Kerry and Galway before losing out in the All-Ireland semi-final to Donegal.
It was Meath’s first All-Ireland semi-final in 16 years and the first time anyone had beaten Dublin Leinster since Meath did it back in 2010.
The addition of Kernan would be a major boost as they look to build on their progress in Brennan’s first year.
