Detectives are convinced a handful of people know exactly what happened to the child but for whatever reason are covering it up.
The people of an Irish town have been told to reveal any information they might have over the disappearance of Kyran Durnin who would be nine years old if he were alive today.
Drogheda TD Ged Nash said there are bound to be people out there who know something. Next Saturday, August 30 marks the first anniversary since the child was officially reported missing.
Gardai are also urging people with even the most minute details about the case to contact them confidentially.
Detectives have established that it is at least three years since Kyran was last seen alive in June, 2022.
They are satisfied that he is dead, was murdered and despite three different detailed searches of properties in Drogheda and Dundalk have been unable to find his body.
His mother Dayla who is now living in England told officers she doesn’t know where he is or what happened to him.
He was reported missing a year ago by his granny Rhonda Byrne Tyson. She spoke to Gardai but is not a suspect.
Deputy Nash said: “There are bound to be people in the locality who will have key information that can help the authorities to establish once and for all what happened to Kyran.
“We need to bring this unbelievably terrible case to a definite conclusion and some form of closure.
“The community is finding it hard to come to terms with how a young child can simply disappear without a trace.
“The Gardai need every single piece of information they can possibly obtain and they need the help of the community to do that. Consciouses need to be re-examined.”
Detectives are convinced a handful of people know exactly what happened to the child but for whatever reason are covering it up.
Two people were arrested and questioned but released without charge. One of them, Anthony Maguire, who had protested his innocence, later took his own life.
He was suspected of providing a decoy child to Tusla, pretending it was Kyran.
Tusla itself has yet to publish publicly any of its internal reports into Kyran’s disappearance and say it can not do so while the Garda investigation is continuing.
The Gardai are set to make a new public appeal about the case in the coming weeks.
In the meantime it has urged the public that if they have any information about Kyran not matter how insignificant to contact them immediately.
The Children’s Minister Norma Foley is to be summoned to the Seanad when it resumes in late September to give an update on Tusla failings and how Kyran slipped through the child protection net.
Drogheda Senator Alison Comyn who has raised the tragic saga in the Seanad said she is determined to get answers so mistakes are not repeated and other children are endangered.
Gardaí in Louth investigating the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin have issued a new appeal to the public for information.
They said: “Kyran would be nine years old this year. The last known images of Kyran were taken in June 2022 when Kyran was six years old.

“To date, there have been in excess of 570 separate investigative actions taken. Two persons (a woman and a man) have to date been arrested on suspicion of murder.”
