A man in his 40s has been arrested after a burglary attempt in east Belfast was “disturbed” by a resident in the early hours of Sunday.

Police say the resident heard a “loud noise” outside their property and then spotted a man’s arm reaching through an open window at around 2.25am in the Burghley Mews area.

The suspect is reported to have taken a golden knife from a windowsill and used it to try and access the property. The knife was later seized by police.
