Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter has been forced to apologise after she made a comment about the late actor Terence Stamp, who died on Sunday night aged 87

Denise Welch has issued an apology to the family and friends of the late actor Terence Stamp following her Loose Women colleague Janet Street-Porter’s rather unflattering remarks about the Hollywood legend.

During Monday’s instalment of Loose Women, Janet, who recently spoke about the latest changes at ITV, revealed details about a date she went on with Terence Stamp decades ago, after being introduced to him by a man with whom she was having an affair.

Whilst Janet had initially encountered Terence at a lunch with his mate, he subsequently asked her out on her own the following week, reports the Mirror.

“We had lunch together and we got on really, really well. He was very shy, he wasn’t an easy guy to talk to,” she explained.

“Anyway, he was drop-dead gorgeous as you can imagine. He asked if I could have lunch with him the next week.

“Me and Terry Stamp had lunch. I remember I was so excited, I was so looking forward to it,” she continued. “What can I tell you ladies – he was the most boring bloke.”

“He droned on about his vegetarian diet and the guy I was having an affair with had warned me, ‘Terry can be a bit of a bore.'”

Denise interjected: “Sorry to all of Terry’s relatives who are tuning in today.”

Janet swiftly retorted: “I don’t think there are that many of them around now, darling.”

She mentioned that they enjoyed a “very pleasant” lunch, despite hearing “all the benefits of the avocado diet at great, great lengths”.

“We came out of the restaurant and onto Bond Street, and I remember all these women coming towards us, gobsmacked that there’s Terence Stamp on the street – and what’s he doing with Janet Street-Porter.”

The family of renowned actor Terence Stamp confirmed his passing at the age of 87 on Sunday night. The Oscar-nominated star was celebrated for his performances in films such as A Season in Hell, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, and Superman.

“He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come,” the family expressed in a statement.

“We ask for privacy at this sad time.”

The cause of his death has not been disclosed.

In the 1960s, Terence was romantically linked with actress Julie Christie and supermodel Jean Shrimpton. He tied the knot for the first and only time in 2002 with Elizabeth O’Rourke, who was then 29. The couple divorced in 2008.
