Man taken to hospital after being attacked by group of men in Co Derry

Police are appealling for information following the incident

A man has been hospitalised with serious injuries after being attacked by a group of men in Derry on Friday evening.

The emergency services were called to reports of a serious assault in the Fernabbey Court area of the city on Friday, August, 15, at around 9.50pm.

It was reported that a number of man had assaulted a man in his 30s, who was later taken to hospital with injuries that police say are not believed to be life-threatening.

Following the attack the men fled from the scene.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the assault or saw anythign suspicious in the area between 8.30pm and 10pm to contact them.

Detective Sergeant Wootton said: “Shortly after 9:50pm, it was reported that a man in his 30s was assaulted by a number of men. The man was taken to hospital for injuries not believed to be life threatening. The men made off from the scene following the incident. “Enquiries are continuing and police would appeal to anyone with any information in relation to the assault or who saw anything suspicious between 8:30pm and 10pm in the Fernabbey area on Friday 15th August, to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 1706 15/08/25. A report can also be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport. Alternatively, information can be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”
