A man has been charged over a security alert that saw a “number of viable devices” destroyed in controlled explosions.

Detectives investigating the alert in the Oakfield Gardens area of The Moy, Co Tyrone “have charged a man to court”, the PSNI said in a statement issued on Sunday morning.

The 30-year-old man has been charged with possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances and is due to appear before Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 11.

“As is usual procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service”, the police statement added.

A number of properties were evacuated and a road closure put in place during the alert that started late on Friday afternoon. It is understood that residents were allowed to return home at around 7am on Saturday.
