A pair of hitchhikers got the shock of their lives when they flagged down a lift with seven-time All-Ireland winner Eoghan O’Gara whilst heading to the All-Ireland Fleadh in Wexford.

Brandon Cassidy and his mate found themselves stranded without transport from Curracloe into Wexford Town due to the massive demand for taxis.

With Fleadh Cheoil 2025 underway, the duo resorted to trying their luck thumbing a ride at the roadside.

Luckily for the lads, they not only secured a lift but ended up sharing the journey with Dublin GAA icon Eoghan O’Gara.

“No taxis to be got in Wexford, thumbing a lift from Curracloe to Wexford town for the fleadh. Chanced our arm with this man, not knowing who he was, 10 minutes into the car journey, he says his name. Didn’t know were after jumping into the car with 7 time all Ireland winner. Gent!” Brandon posted on social media, reports the Irish Mirror.

O’Gara formed part of Dublin’s legendary squad throughout the 2010s and claimed seven All-Ireland medals between 2011 and his retirement in 2019, when the Dubs achieved their historic five-in-a-row and remained a constant presence in the Dublin setup during that period.

He came on as the first substitute in their 2011 All-Ireland triumph and also featured from the start in the 2017 decider, a thriller against Mayo.

A stalwart for club side Templeogue Synge Street, O’Gara made the switch to Wexford outfit Shelmaliers and managed to secure a county championship in 2023.

He now resides in the county alongside his family. Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2025 is set to take place in Wexford from August 3rd to August 10th, with thousands anticipated to descend upon Wexford for the celebrations.

Pop superstar Ed Sheeran made a surprise appearance at the festival, delivering several performances. He has deep ties to Wexford.
