The Coronation Street star has been inundated with support from fans after revealing she ‘can’t see’
A former Coronation Street actress has received a wave of support from fans following her recent surgery.
Tracie Bennett, known for her role as Sharon Gaskell on the ITV soap during various stints since 1982, took to social media to update her followers.
She shared that she had an eye operation at Moorfields Eye Hospital and is currently recovering with her vision bandaged.
“Hello everybody, here I am reclining in my bed, waiting to receive visitors when I can see them,” she said. “I can’t see anything at the moment.”
Tracie expressed gratitude for the support she’s received, commenting: “I didn’t mean to cause a thing but yeah, I’m okay. Moorfields were just spectacular, the best eye hospital in the world,” reports Leicestershire Live.

She humorously remarked about her preference for a “red sparkly one” bandage over the plain white one she had, adding: “I don’t think they understand showbiz there, and quite right too.”
Introducing her teddy bear, she added: “However old you are, you always need a Winnie the Pooh, this is my Winnie the Pooh, he’s been everywhere with me, and no doubt he’ll carry on so.
“He’s been all over the world, cheering me up, and keeping me warm over winter.”
She ended her update by reassuring everyone about her upcoming role: “I’m sure I’ll be able to see – not very well at the moment – but I’m sure I’ll be able to see once I play Tallulah in The Code, and that’s not a plug, I’m just saying, I don’t want the director worrying or anything.”
She wrote alongside the video: “Thanks for being lovely everyone and for your concern. I’ll be Reet! Bless ya…really kind of you.”
Tracie is set to portray Tallulah Bankhead in The Code at Southward Playhouse Elephant this September, appearing alongside former EastEnders actor John Partridge.
After her memorable appearances on Coronation Street as Sharon, the Faircloughs’ foster daughter, Tracie has taken on numerous stage roles, featuring in musicals such as Hairspray, Les Misérables, and End of the Rainbow.
She has also appeared in Casualty, Doctors, and The Bill.
Supporters flocked to offer their well-wishes in the comments beneath her X post, with one fan saying: “I wish you a speedy recovery, gorgeous lady, and you’ll be back in rehearsals for your new show soon. Best wishes, Michael x.”
Another follower added, “I wish you a speedy recovery, Tracie. Get well soon. Thinking of you xx. “
