There will be a series of road closures in Armagh City on Saturday with thousands of spectators set to attend the Ulster Club SHC final between Slaughtneil and St John’s with the Box-It Athletic Grounds also set to host Sunday’s Scotstown vs Newbridge tie

GAA fans attending Saturday’s Ulster Club SHC final between Slaughtneil and St John’s can expect serious traffic congestion in Armagh City.

Thousands of spectators will descend on the Box-It Athletic Grounds for the provincial hurling decider as the Derry champions bid to defend their crown against the Antrim champions.

The game throws-in at 6pm, but Saturday also sees Armagh host its annual Georgian Festival.

The popular event features over 100 artisan stalls, live street music, costumed performers and a host of children’s entertainment.

With several road closures in place in and around the City, fans heading to the hurling final could be caught in heavy traffic.

Additionally, the Box-It Athletic Grounds is scheduled to host another major game on Sunday, subject to a pitch inspection following Saturday’s hurling game.

Last Sunday’s Ulster Club SFC semi-final between Scotstown and Newbridge was abandoned at half-time in O’Neills Healy Park following heavy rain at the Omagh venue.

Armagh will host the refixture if the pitch is still playable after the hurling final with Enniskillen ’s Brewster Park and Cavan’s Kingspan Breffni also on standby.

With the Georgian Festival now extending into Sunday, some roads in Armagh will remain closed, possibly affecting fans at Sunday’s football as well.

Market Street will be closed from Friday at 3pm until Sunday at 7pm with Scotch Street, Thomas Street and Ogle Street closed from 6pm on Friday until 1am on Sunday.

Additionally, there will be a one-way system in place at the Mall East from Friday, at 5.30pm to Sunday at 1am.

The Box-It Athletic Grounds is also scheduled to host the upcoming Ulster Club SFC final on Saturday, December 13 (6PM) with Kilcoo awaiting the winners of the refixed Scotstown versus Newbridge tie.
