News: Playlunch Reveal 29-Date Sex Ed Regional Tour After Breakout Year

Playlunch will take their Sex Ed Regional Tour across Australia from December through to May, marking their biggest run of shows to date and extending the momentum they’ve built across 2024 and 2025. The Melbourne bogan-funk outfit — forged during lockdown in a makeshift home-studio in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs — began as the chaotic, genre-bending project of producer and multi-instrumentalist Liam Bell. Blending retro dance music, Aussie late-‘90s/early-2000s nostalgia and unapologetic suburban humour, Playlunch have spent the past two years shaping their own lane: Bogan Funk.

Since emerging in 2022, the group have grown from cult curiosity to national talking point. Their 2023 debut Who’s Ready For A Good Time? sparked viral moments, triple j rotation and sold-out 500-cap rooms, but the band have continued to build beyond the initial buzz. Their 2024 BIGSOUND showcase further cemented their reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting new acts, backed by an increasingly loyal fanbase and a live show known for its energy and humour.

In 2025, Playlunch pushed further into the national spotlight with their sophomore album Sex Ed, released in August via ABC Music. The record debuted at #7 on the ARIA Australian Artist Charts and reached the Top 5 for physical sales. Its standout track “Keith” became a breakout hit, earning triple j Feature Track, 3 million streams across DSPs, more than 10 million views across TikTok and Instagram, and a #1 position on the Spotify Viral 50 (AU). Its blend of satire and affection resonated widely, inspiring fan videos, memes, drag performances and even pub karaoke nights. Earlier this month, the band earned two J Award nominations: Unearthed Artist of the Year and Australian Music Video of the Year.

Their momentum was reinforced by an instantly memorable triple j Like A Version — a cover of The Weather Girls’ “It’s Raining Men” — and a notable nod when bbno$ added “Keith” to his Melbourne setlist.

The upcoming Sex Ed Regional Tour begins with an already sold-out Belgrave date, before travelling through Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia and the ACT. Victorian dates include Warrnambool, Phillip Island, Bendigo, Ballarat, Frankston, Lorne, St Kilda, South Morang, Traralgon and Barwon Heads. Interstate stops include Bunbury, Margaret River, Albany, the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Albury, Gosford, Sydney, Newcastle, Avalon Beach, Wollongong, Archies Creek and a one-off Canberra show. The band will also return to Tasmania for Good Gumnuts Festival and a headline date in Hobart.

Playlunch’s live presence has become a hallmark of their rise, with appearances at NYE on the Hill, Party in the Paddock, Hyper Festival and a sold-out national headline run through 1200-cap venues. Their shows lean heavily into shared nostalgia and communal energy — the atmosphere of a school disco scaled up to festival size.

With their recent signing to Mint Talent Group in North America and increasing international interest, these regional Australian shows may be among the last local opportunities to catch the band before they shift their attention overseas.

Tickets go on general sale Friday 21 November at 10am local time, with DAL/Early Lunch presale available Wednesday 19 November at 10am.
