A woman who flew all the way to Ireland to attend a matchmaking festival in the hopes of finding a husband was left disappointed by the outcome when she actually got there

A woman was left gobsmacked after she travelled all the way to Ireland for a matchmaking festival, only to find that the attendees were not quite her in her demographic. Sue Almonte, a solo traveller, decided to ditch dating apps and try her luck at a traditional matchmaking festival instead. However, she soon discovered that the crowd was predominantly made up of pensioners.

In a video clip, Sue can be seen shaking her head as she films the scene, captioning it: ‘When you fly to Ireland for their matchmaking festival to find a husband and this is the crowd’. The footage shows elderly couples pairing off for a slow dance.

Despite her surprise, Sue remained positive, adding in the caption: “I hope they all find their partner though.”

The video quickly went viral, amassing over 103,000 likes, with many finding the situation hilarious.

One user responded with laughing emojis, while another joked: “So… no husband?”

Others saw potential in the situation, with one commenting: “Wait, there’s a romance novel idea here!”

Another sympathised: “Oh God, I am sorry girl.”

One person teased: “You’re lucky, this is the younger group,” while another added: “Ok but good to know if I’m still single in 30 years.”

The woman didn’t mention which exact festival it was, however the Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival, which is held each September in County Clare, is renowned in Ireland.

The month-long event is focused on matchmaking, music, and dancing and is known as Europe’s largest matchmaking festival.

It features the traditional matchmaker Willie Daly, who works with a 150 year old book of profiles.

Although matchmaking is the main point of the event, the festival also attracts many visitors for its vibrant atmosphere, with live music, dancing, and social events.

Other people shared their own dating disasters, with another woman who had been to the festival sharing her experience. She wrote: “I went in 2023, had a similar experience. Young women, old men, and lots of people that appeared to already know each other? Nine months later I returned to Ireland, and I met my love on Bumble. We’re now 15 months into the love of our lives.”

While another added: “In 2015, we drove out of our way to Lisdoonvarna, specifically to meet the famous matchmaker, only to be turned away bc he was ‘on his break’. Still single to this day.”
