The Met Office predicts this cold snap will extend nationwide, with temperatures falling ‘several degrees’ beneath seasonal norms

The first snows of the winter are forecast to fall in more than 20 areas next week as a blast of arctic weather hits the UK. You can see the days when snow is predicted in your area with our interactive map.

The Met Office predicts a dramatic shift in conditions after the deluge of rain this weekend, saying there is a “reasonable chance” of snow as Arctic air sweeps the UK.

Forecasters predict that high pressure will control weekend conditions, shifting southward towards the Azores and drawing in frigid northerly winds.

As this spreads southward across the UK, the Met Office warns temperatures will tumble and winter-like conditions may arrive, possibly including snow in parts of the nation.

Temperatures may fall to -4C across parts of Scotland during the early hours of Monday (November 17).

The Met Office predicts this cold snap will then extend nationwide, with temperatures falling ‘several degrees’ beneath seasonal norms.

Night-time temperatures may sink to -2C across the North West of England on Tuesday, with widespread overnight lows between 0-2C across central England and Scotland on Wednesday. Alongside the cold, the Met Office says there is a growing chance of sleet and snow, particularly over hills and mountains in Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, and possibly North Wales.

Towards the end of next week, the Met Office said a “widespread wintry spell” could reach the UK, with even southern parts of the country seeing snowfall.

According to the OpenWeather forecast site, the snow could arrive in parts of Scotland and the North East on Monday.

Snow could then hit parts of Wales on Tuesday, and possibly to Gloucestershire in the South West. There is also a chance of snow in Northern Ireland by Wednesday.
