Haley is taking on the challenge in memory of young mum Sarah Montgomery, who was killed earlier this year
A Co Down woman has set herself a challenge to raise funds in memory of her friend who was killed earlier this year.
Haley Moore from Donaghadee will be running in the RNLI Reindeer Run next month in memory of her friend Sarah Montgomery, a pregnant mum-of-two who was killed in June this year. Sarah was a former member of the Donaghadee Lifeboat’s fundraising team.
The fundraising run sees participants cover 24 miles in December to raise money for RNLI volunteers to provide their life-saving service.

Sarah and Haley had been friends since nursery and went through primary school together. Haley said they saw each other as extensions of their own families. They were both in the Girls Brigade, later had daughters around the same time, and Sarah was a bridesmaid at Haley’s wedding. Haley is now taking up the running challenge as a tribute to one of her best friends and to raise much-needed funds for the charity.
Haley said “Sarah was very proud and supportive of Donaghadee Lifeboat. Her grandfather and mum both passed this love onto her. As a child, Sarah would have always been at Donaghadee Lifeboat days with her mum, Linda, as she was part of the fundraising team.
“Sarah was also proud to be a volunteer in recent years. The lifeboat is such an important part of our seaside town and I am so happy to support it through RNLI Reindeer Run this year. This is my first year taking part and I am absolutely blown away by the support and donations received.
“I am not a runner so this will definitely be a challenge for me.”
