Recruitment drive launched for new NI Police Ombudsman

The salary for the Ombudsman will be £173,854 per annum.

A competition has been launched to appoint a new Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland by the Executive Office.

Applications are now open for the role of the new Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland with the Executive saying it is looking for someone who has “a strong sense of public purpose” and is “invigorated by challenges”.

The role of the Ombudsman is to provide an independent and impartial police complaints service in which both the public and the police have confidence. They also work closely with the public, police, the institutions of the local administration, including the NI Policing Board, the Public Prosecution Service, solicitors and various advocacy organisations, as well as with the media.

The role has an annual remuneration of over £170,000, and is for a single non-renewable term of seven years or until the person appointed reaches age 70. Applications need to be submitted by 12pm on Friday, November 28.
